I am always humbled & amazed when working with Bowen Therapy.

My clients range from the elderly to the newborn, from the frail to the strong. I don't have to adapt the moves I make, only how many I do. Most adults, unless extremely ill, are given a full treatment with extra procedures to target specific problems. Clients who are frail receive less moves with longer breaks between sets of moves, & yet they still feel enormous benefit from the treatment.

http://www.thenaturaltherapy.co.uk/bowen-benefits/

A shoulder move

Babies need even less. I recently saw a little girl, 5 weeks old, cesarian birth, bottle fed & suffering from constipation. I did 10 moves over about 5 minutes. The next appointment was 2 weeks later & Mum was very pleased saying her baby was having normal bowel movements once, if not twice a day. This baby also favoured a curled position & was very sleepy on the first visit. By the 2nd appt, she was more alert & stretching her body out - it was lovely to see.

I also see some clients who aren't able to get into the prone & supine position on the couch for the treatment. So we adapt a position to suit the client, whether it be on their side or sitting & still I see such lovely results. This is great for disabled clients & also pregnant women. My Daughter-in-Law was pregnant last year & I treated her with Bowen throughout the whole pregnancy. She felt good & was pain free 90% of the pregnancy & went on to have a fairly easy birth with very little in the way of pain control.

http://www.thenaturaltherapy.co.uk/pregnancy-babies/

There have also been times when I've been asked to help but have had so little time so have just done about half a dozen moves. I just can't help but grin when I hear it's been successful & on the odd occasion I've even been called a witch! I tell them it's the Bowen working with their bodies, all I do is put in the moves! One example is when my sons friend was saying how one of his digits (he'd lost half of this digit in an accident about a month previously) wouldn't close into a clench with the rest of his fingers & thumb on the same hand. I quickly did 2 upper back moves, 2 moves on his arm & 2 moves on the back of his hand. I then dashed out to a meeting & returned 2 hours later to be told (& shown) that this digit now moved into the clenched position. One happy young man!

I will always be grateful to my friend who introduced me to Bowen & give thanks to the late Tom Bowen who developed this amazing therapy.

Facial Rejuvenation is a combination of Indian face massage, acupressure & lymphatic drainage used on the head, face & neck in order to give you a natural face-lift. It works by freeing constrictions both within the facial muscles & in the connective tissue of the skin.

Many people suffer facial tension which builds up in the facial muscles causing puffiness, lines & wrinkles. Facial Rejuvenation is similar to an acupunture face-lift without the needles. There are no side effects & is a popular method of facial care. The treatment includes a neck & shoulder massage to encourage deep relaxation & release tension prior to the facial massage.

This wonderfully relaxing treatment -

· Lessens wrinkles & expression lines

· Tightens facial contours

· Tones & improves complexion

· Releases stress & tension in surrounding muscles

· Soothes tension headaches

· Eases eyestrain & stress-related symptoms

· Enhances a positive & confident appearance

Upward strokes to gently 'lift' the forehead

For optimum facial lift, you may wish to receive this treatment for a minimum of four weeks. This can be reviewed after the fourth treatment.

The treatment consists of 7 stages -

Tuning in & making contact.

Relaxation with a neck & shoulder massage to improve blood & lymph flow & ease tension in the muscles.

Energy balance by stimulating the tsubos (pressure points) of the face

Smooth & lift using a series of massage movements over the face, relieving muscular tension & freeing any 'stuck' connective tissue.

Stabilising uses a series of movements to encourage the face to absorb & accept the changes.

Lymphatic drainage to aid the removal & dispersion of toxins released from the facial tissues.

Grounding to gently bring the mind & body back to awareness.

I now have 2 new therapies on offer -

Thai Foot massage

Thai foot massage uses a combination of hands & Thai foot sticks to stimulate reflex points and includes a therapeutic massage to the legs and feet. This traditional technique dates back over 2000 years and is still practiced by Buddhist monks today. Elements of the massage include working on ‘Sen’ lines from the Ayurvedic tradition, these are the equivalent of the Chinese Meridian or energy lines.

It improves circulation in legs and feet

It stimulates lymphatic drainage

It helps remove toxins

It helps boost the immune system

It increases oxygen to the feet and legs

Reduces stiffness and improves flexibility

Facial Rejuvenation

Facial rejuvenation or Natural lift facial massage is a combination of Indian Face Massage, Acupressure & Lymphatic drainage used on the head, face and neck in order to give you a natural facelift. It works primarily by freeing constrictions both within the facial muscles and in the connective tissue of the skin.

Also included is a chest, shoulder & neck massage to help you totally relax prior to the facial massage

This wonderfully relaxing treatment lessens wrinkles and expression lines, tightens facial contours, tones and improves the complexion, releases stress and tension in surrounding muscles, soothes tension headaches, eyestrain and stress-related symptoms, enhances feelings of well-being and encourages a positive and confident appearance.

Washing Soda can be recommended for use where there is swelling without heat, bruising, tenderness or redness

Washing soda comes as crystals & flakes. If crystals are used, then they must be crushed to the consistency of coarse salt. Crystals are preferable as flakes tend to be too small. Place them into a piece of cotton & fold to make a pack (approx. 5cm sq).
The pack is then placed on the lower part of the swelling & is held in place be some sort of tie like an elastic bandage or a pair of tights.
The washing soda can draw off a lot of fluid from a swollen ankle or knee, so the area can be wrapped in a small towel to soak up excess fluid. This can be tied on using tape or something to hold it in place.
Apply the pack just before bedtime as it is best left on overnight for around 6 hrs. Packs can be applied every other night but no more than 3 times per week, until the swelling is reduced or removed.
Any cuts or grazes can be covered with Vaseline to avoid irritation.
If there is no reduction in the swelling or the pack remains dry, try changing the position of the pack until it finds a point to draw from.

If you have high blood pressure or heart disease, apply the pack for shorter periods during the evening to avoid any radical removal of fluid from the system.

Bowen is a remarkable & powerful tool, encouraging your body to heal itself. All your body needs, is the stimulus to help it communicate with your brain & begin the self healing process.

As a Bowen therapist, I will use thumbs & fingers to make small rolling type moves over precise points of your body, gently stimulating the fascia which connects to the muscle, soft tissue & energy within your body.

The treatment consists of small sets of moves being performed with breaks in between. At this point, I may leave the room for a short while, allowing your body to rest & relax. This gives your body time to absorb the moves & make the subtle adjustments which help relieve tension, reduce pain & promote healing.

The gentle moves of a Bowen treatment will send out signals that:
- stimulate energy flow
- aid lymphatic drainage of toxins & waste
- promote good circulation
- release muscular tension
- increase mobility

I often recommend Epsom salts to my clients as this is a great aid to ease aches & pains, stiff joints & bunions

Epsom salts can be used locally for hand or foot calcification but also as a preventative & a general aid to relaxation. It works by reducing the acid build up in the body & working towards a normal acid/alkaline balance. It is very useful in cases of fever & colds & can also be used by people with skin conditions such as dermatitis or eczema.
In a foot or hand soak, use two tablespoons in approximately two litres of warm water & soak feet for 15-20 minutes. In a normal bath the amount of salts you need is approximately one mug full. The water should be warm, not hot as the salts raise the body temperature.
Epsom salts can be used whenever a bath is taken. For specific problems such as bunions, regular soaking is required, perhaps averaging five times a week, in order to reduce the calcification.
If you have high blood pressure or a heart disorder, you should exercise caution when using the salts in the bath.

Epsom salts in the bath is not recommended for children under five.

A 1kg bag of salts

There are many other uses for Epsom salts (such as exfoliation) which can be found on google.
